SaltCal is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your food entries, sodium and calorie logs, blood pressure readings, saved foods, and settings are stored locally on your device only. We have no servers and no access to this data.

4. Your Data Stays on Your Device
Everything you enter into SaltCal (meals, sodium, calories and macros, blood pressure readings, saved foods, goals and settings) is stored exclusively on your iPhone using Apple's local storage (SwiftData). It never leaves your device except as described below.
5. Apple Health
With your permission, SaltCal can read your daily step count from Apple Health to show it alongside your sodium goal. This access is read-only, is used only on your device, and is never transmitted to us or anyone else. SaltCal does not write any data to Apple Health. You can revoke this permission at any time in the Health app.
6. Barcode Lookups (Open Food Facts)
When you scan a barcode or add a photo of one, SaltCal sends only the product's barcode number to Open Food Facts, a free open-source food database, to retrieve nutrition information. No personal data, account information, or other app data is sent. If you never scan a barcode, SaltCal makes no network requests. Open Food Facts' handling of requests is governed by their own privacy policy.
7. iCloud Backup
If you use iCloud Backup, your SaltCal data may be included in your device's encrypted backup. This is managed entirely by Apple, and we have no access to your iCloud data.
8. Children's Privacy
SaltCal does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children. As no data is collected, no personal information from children is stored or processed.
